Katamon

Katamon, a Jerusalem neigborhood, is located in the Southeast section of the city.
It is an up and coming neighbourhood with an increasing amount of anglos purchasing apartments.
The neighborhood is a real melting pot of olim from around the world.

Education / Youth
There are three local elementary schools: Tidhar(religious), Denmark (secular) and Keshet(the only mixed secular/religious school in the city). There are many schools in close proximity to the Katamonim like: Mekor Chaim, Hartman, and Horev.
There are a number of both religious and secular preschool programs. Gan Teddy, a bilingual (English/Hebrew) mischpachton for 2 and 3 year olds opened this year on Yossi Ben Yoezer Street.
A new religious school is in the process of being built by members of the Kehilat Shalem community in neighbouring Sansimon.

Transportation
Busses #18 and #4, which go to the center of town, run through the neighborhood.

Community and Religious Life
There are active community centers with services for children.
Most of the shuls are Sephardi, although there is a small but growing Ashkenazi shul in the basement of an old age home on Rashbag Street. Most of the Anglos in the neighborhood are either members of that synagogue or leave the neighborhood for the Ramban shul.

Real Estate
It is more common to purchase rather than rent, as properties are old and often need renovation. Purchase: 5 room apartment (160 sq m) for 1.6 million shekel.
Many of the apartments have yards and are larger than in Old Katamon.
Rentals (4-5 room apts.) – $1400 – $2000 per month
Purchase (4-5 room apts.)-$700,000- $2.5 million
