One of Israel’s truly beautiful seaside resorts is also an eclectic mix of Jewish ethnicities. Named for American philanthropist Nathan Strauss, the 80 year-old city has a wide mix of nationalities and tourists: 30% of the city’s population are Olim from many different countries.

The eastern part of the city, Kiryat Hasharon, has seen a recent surge of dati-leumi young couples, some English speakers as well, moving into the neighborhood. Ramat Poleg is another area which has begun attracting young families including English speakers. A new area, NAT600, is currently being developed with both villas and apartments.

Local Employment
Many residents are employed in the civil service arena, high-tech and in academia. There are large industrial zones in Netanya where companies such as Delek, Ikea and Cellcom are located.

Education / Youth
Secular students study at the elementary school and high school in their catchment area.
The Mamad schools, Moreshet Zevulun and Roi Klein, service the date-leumi population in Kiryat HaSharon; Mamad Rashi services the Ramat Poleg section whereas the Torani Noam School services the entire city.

There is a local Bnei Akiva Yeshiva Tichonit and the Bar Ilan Ulpana. There are also active chapters of Bnei Akiva and Ariel.

There are Talmud Torahs, a Beit Yaakov and a Chabad elementary school in the city.

Transportation
Netanya boasts great train and bus transportion. It is only 30 minutes by train to Tel Aviv and to Haifa. It is very easy to get to one of the two train stations from anywhere in the city.

Olim Services
Simon Monk is an Anglo member of the city council who is a great resource for Olim to Netanya. The city has one Ulpan called Ben Leumi. The Young Israel also offers an ulpan for retirees. There is also a very active AACI chapter in the city including a lending library for English books.

Amenities / Services
Netanya is home to the range of amenities and services that would be expected in any large city.

Community and Religious Life
The Beit Yisrael Conservative synagogue services mostly a retiree population but welcomes all.

Netanya has an enormous range of synagogues and yeshivot as well as a Yeshivat Hesder.

Three popular shuls for English speakers are the fully handicapped accesible Young Israel of North Netanya, which caters to a retiree crowd; the ‘McDonald Shul’, also in north Netanya, which caters to a mixed Anglo-native Israeli retiree crowd; and the Young Israel of Ramat Poleg whose mainly middle-upper class population ranges from modern Orthodox to traditional.

On the southern side of Netanya in the South Beach area there is a new and active shul called South Netanya Askenazi Congregation (S.N.A.C.)(http://www.snacshul.org/) which has attracted a range of traditional English speakers. For more information contact info@snacshul.org.
